Yttrium – 39
Yttrium is not a lanthanide, but is included because it shares properties with heavy rare earths. It is found in monazite sand or bastnasite deposits.
Used in liquid crystal (LCD) screens and compact fluorescent lights (CFL) for its phosphorescent properties. Glass polishing for cathode ray tubes (CRT), plasma (PDP), and liquid crystal (LCD) screens. Produce red colour for CRT TV and computer screens. Stabilizing agent for alloy production Microwave communication devices, lasers, and superconductors.
Used to make cubic zirconia simulated diamonds. Manufacture of high-strength glass substrates for hard disks. Vehicle oxygen sensors to improve fuel efficiency and reduce lower pollution Jet engine turbines, rocket nose cones.
